Privacy Policy
Last updated August 2026. This page describes, plainly and specifically, what Daily Light collects, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have.
Daily Light ("we", "us") is a devotional app. This policy covers the account, profile, journal, conversation, analytics and notification data described below, in this app only.
Account and profile data
If you create an account, we collect your email address and password (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your password in plain text).
The "My Journey" profile is optional and entirely under your control: name, age, occupation, life roles, current season, growth goals, main focus, preferred tone, and a free-text "About Me" field where you can describe your life, priorities and struggles in your own words. This is used to personalize Today's Light and Conversation Mode — it is the primary context we send to the AI when generating a reflection for you (see "AI processing" below).
You can edit or clear any of these fields at any time from My Journey.
Journal, conversations and Understand Something
Your Journal entries (title, date, notes, mood) are private to you. They are not sent to the AI or used for personalization — they exist only for you to read back later.
Conversation Mode ("Take Today's Light Further") sends your typed question, recent conversation history, and (if you have one) your My Journey profile to the AI to generate a reply. A conversation is kept only on your device unless you explicitly tap "Save this conversation," which stores it in your account.
Understand Something sends your typed question (and any text you paste in) to the AI to generate an explanation. A session is kept only on your device unless you explicitly save it.
Saved items (passages, reflections, takeaways, conversations you chose to keep) are stored in your account so you can find them again.
AI processing
Today's Light, Conversation Mode, Understand Something, and Life Library's "Search for guidance" are generated by a third-party AI model. Your request for these features is sent to our AI gateway provider (Lovable AI), which routes it to an underlying model provider (currently OpenAI or Google, depending on configuration) — both of these providers process your request text to generate a response, but neither is used to train their models on your data as part of this integration.
Depending on the feature, this can include: your typed question or situation, recent conversation history, and — only where you've filled it in — your My Journey profile (including "About Me"). We separately record which feature was used, the model, token counts and timing for cost/reliability monitoring — this usage record never includes the content of your prompt or the AI's reply.
AI-generated content is clearly informational, not professional advice — see our Terms for the specifics.
Analytics and device identifiers
We run our own first-party, privacy-light analytics — there are no third-party advertising or tracking scripts in this app. A random, non-identifying device ID is generated once and stored in your browser's local storage; it's attached to basic product events (e.g. "Today's Light viewed", "journal entry created") and to how long the app stays open on a tab, so we can understand usage without collecting anything personal. If you're signed in, these events are also linked to your account so we can keep your usage history consistent across devices. Event details are intentionally tiny (a topic tag at most) — never journal text, conversation content, or AI replies.
Push notifications
If you turn on reminders, we store the push subscription your browser gives us (a delivery endpoint and encryption keys — standard for Web Push, and meaningless without your browser/device) along with your reminder time and timezone, so we can send you a daily "Today's Light is ready" notification. This works whether or not you have an account; if you later sign in on the same device, that subscription is attached to your account. You can turn reminders off at any time from Profile > Notifications, which deletes the stored subscription.
What's stored on your device
Some data is kept only in your browser's local storage, not on our servers: your draft profile/journal/saved items before you sign in, your device ID, Conversation Mode's history for the day, and (if you're signed in) your sign-in session. This means it's visible to anyone with access to your browser profile on a shared device — sign out when using a shared or public device if you'd rather it not persist.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. It's shared only with:
- Supabase — our database, authentication and hosting infrastructure for account and app data.
- Lovable AI Gateway, OpenAI and/or Google — to generate AI content, as described above.
- Web push services (e.g. your browser vendor's push infrastructure) — to deliver reminder notifications, if you've enabled them.
- Bible text and lectionary-reference APIs we call to build Today's Light — these receive a date/reference, never anything about you.
Retention
We keep account and app data for as long as your account exists. Analytics events and AI usage records are retained in aggregate for product/reliability purposes even after account deletion, but with any account identifier removed (see "Delete your account" below) — they can no longer be tied back to you.
Export and delete your data
From Profile > Account you can:
- Export my data — download your profile, saved items, journal entries and Understand Something sessions as a JSON file.
- Delete account — permanently deletes your account, profile, saved items, journal, Understand Something sessions, and push subscription/preferences. Aggregate analytics and AI usage records are kept but anonymized (your account is disconnected from them, not the rows themselves deleted) — see "Retention" above. This cannot be undone.
You can also reach us at dvxlabs@zohomail.com for any privacy request, including deletion or export requests made outside the app.
Children
Daily Light is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at dvxlabs@zohomail.com and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of Daily Light after a change means you accept the updated policy.
